Nathan Cordero's sexy words

Seems I keep missing my opportunity to see the work of Nathan Cordero in person - just missed his show over @ the Johansson Projects. Sigh; one of these days I will . . . His hand carved letters on white painted wood is such a sexy combination.

{thanks to aesthetic outbursts for connecting a name to these.}

inside the envelope

When you were a kid, did you turn the envelopes inside out to see the tiny patterns hidden inside? We did. So, it was great fun to find this flickr set of security envelop patterns. This on-going project was set up by Joesph King to collect and organize envelope security patterns from around the world - what a great idea. We love finding tiny patterns in unexpected places.

the end of an Edsel...

Just though this was the perfect end for an Edsel...
Took a little break today since the weather so lovely. Decided it was the perfect day to explore Flora Grubb in San Francisco. If you haven't been there, you really should check it out - it is a hidden gem in the city.

mud stencils

Graffiti goes green? Jesse Graves uses mud to create green graffiti and encourages others to join him. Graves explains , “I began stenciling with mud to put environmentally conscious messages in public spaces. I use mud or earth because it is a fundamental life-giving substance, logical for my messages. Mud stencils are an evolving medium, intended for art and social justice, not corporate advertisement.”

me too!

Fascinated with the hand drawn typography images by Will Bryant.

bird in a bowl

I love finding small unexpected details. And I love simple utilitarian objects. This little bowl mixes quirky illustration with a tiny geometric pattern. The pattern almost becomes a solid as you are lulled by its rhythm. The design is ever so slightly raised inviting you to run your finger around its surface again and again. This little bowl with a bird in the center is the perfect combination and makes me happy.

not to be worn as a sweater

"Small sweater looking scarf. Winding around the neck it maybe used as a muffler. Not to be worn as a sweater." Can't even begin to express how much I am loving these knit pieces by Tou! Doesn't it make you smile?

The concept behind Tou is "to find a new view point": using the shapes of ordinary existing items with a bit of change. Your imagination and creativity is required for wearing. Quirky elegance, utilitarian and a subtle sense of playfulness: Isn't it beautiful?

Please visit Tou's website to explorre more of their designs. You can purchase one (or two or...) here.

snowboard pattern

Check out this pattern on a Burton snowboard. Love how the critters and letters are puzzle pieced together to create an all over design. Fun.

art-o-mat

Selling snack-sized original art wrapped in cellophane was a project started by Clark Whittington for a solo art show in 1997 and is still going strong with over 400 artists contributing from around the world. Repurposed cigarette vending machines dispense original art for around five-bucks! Art-o-mat machines can be found in museums, galleries, cafes and various shops. The machines themselves are incredible pieces. Check out their website to see more. Planning a trip? Be sure to check if there will be an art-o-mat machine in the area - each one's different and worth searching for.

Debi van Zyl

The knitted creatures by Debi van Zyl always make me smile. Their hand knit texture and vintage buttons makes them feel cozy and familiar. Funny, simple proportions, stripes and great color combinations mix up the familiar with something a little unexpected and more playful. The perfect combination! Visit her blog or her shop to see more.

monster shots

Some obsessions are short lived, others only fuel greater obsessions. My monster shot glasses from Munktiki are in the later category. Aren't they cool? It's hard to say which one is my favorite, I guess it depends on my mood. You can purchase your own here. Be sure not to miss the stacking mug sets. Imaginative and just plain wacky. Each is full of wise-crack humor and yet is exquisitely crafted - which is not an easy thing to pull off!
